Following last month's announcement that the A5036 Port of Liverpool Access Road has been cancelled, it was really important to our campaign to thank the Transport Secretary and our local and regional politicians for the role each has played in reaching this decision.
This is because our campaign had 2 main goals.
To continually raise awareness of, and grow public opposition to these plans. Thanks to YOUR amazing response, we believe we achieved this... and then some!
At the same time, this had to be done in conjunction with engaging with and influencing the people who ultimately make these decisions - our elected representatives.
We hope that we've managed to navigate this second part as well as possible.
Over the years, we have shared many of the letters we have written to politicians on this topic to demonstrate some of the work we have done 'behind the scenes'.
Often, this was to reassure people that we are holding our politicians to account, so it feels right that we share these letters of thanks, too.
The letters also demonstrate that we have no intention of walking away from the issue, now that the road has been cancelled.
We want to work with the DfT, our Metro Mayor, our MPs and our Council to turn the justification for cancelling the road (that it was "unfunded and unaffordable") into a firm commitment to never propose similar plans in the future, so that Rimrose Valley has indeed been saved, permanently.
This brings with it a need to urgently improve living conditions for everyone in South Sefton who is impacted by the Port of Liverpool's operations, specifically communities alongside the existing A5036 port access corridor who are suffering the most from port traffic and HGVs.
Better solutions are possible and we'll continue to call for these, again working with our politicians, in the months and years to come.
The letters below are variations on a theme with similar content in each, but we're sharing them all for transparency.
